Youth Nature Writing Contest

Nature seems to inspire my best ideas. It's when I am fishing, hiking or mountain biking that I feel inspired to write about outdoor adventures, nature and life.

That's why the Lewis and Clark Natural Historical Park holds an annual Youth Nature Writing contest -- nature and the outdoors inspire creativity. The theme for this year's writing contest is "Tales from the Trail: A Hiker's Story."

Campers love national parks -- that's a fact. But the truth is national parks wouldn't be where they are today without private fundraising organizations.

The National Park Foundation was established in 1967 with support from Lady Bird Johnson and an initial $1 million contribution from Laurance Rockefeller. The organization has been helping to improve and protect America's National Parks ever since by raising private funds for outdoor recreation, protecting ecosystems, educating youth and increasing public awareness.
